IVF post 7 ~ post egg retrievel days...

Day 1 post egg retrieval (11/11/12 Sunday)
Dr Williams called in the morning to say that 10 of 12 eggs fertilized.  He said the other 3 (remember they took 15 eggs) were not mature enough to do ICSI on (I know a new name…ICSI is how our eggs were fertilized.  There are two ways to fertilize eggs, 1. Put egg in petri dish with a lot of sperm and see who gets there first or 2. ICSI ~ an embryologist takes one sperm and injects it into an egg…this was done because we had PGD done)  Dr. Williams was very pleased with those numbers and said he would call on Tuesday with another update to see which ones had multiple cells. He said that they would not pull the embryos out of the incubator on Monday as they don’t like to mess with them too much.  He said usually 60-70% survive so we were thinking on Tuesday we would have 6 or 7 embryos.
progesterone injections infull force for at least the next month and a half!

Day 2:
waiting day...

Day 3 post egg retrieval (11/13 Tuesday)
Woke up hoping to get an early call from Dr. Williams but no call! When I got off work I called Bonnie and left her a message.  She called me back to tell me that Dr. Thomas (Embryologist) was at lunch and he would call me once he got back.  She said that they had received the preliminary report and everything looked good just no #’s yet.  Dr. Thomas called around 12:30pm and said out of the 10 fertilized embryos 9 had made it to Day 3 for biopsy (the day they would remove a cell from each embryo to send to the NJ lab to have it tested for SMA)…HUGE PRAISES TO GOD!!!  Remember Dr. Williams had told me on Sunday to plan on 6 or 7 and we had 9!!!!  He said the cells were already packaged up and would arrive in New Jersey at Reprogenetics (the lab) tomorrow (Wednesday) and that they should have the results by mid-morning on Thursday (transfer day).  Dr. Thomas said it was unusual for all 9 to make it to day 5 but that he was hopeful and he would join us in prayer that it happened…how awesome is he?  I’m telling you this entire process God had his hands in it and led us to the right people!  How many Embryologists do you know that would openly tell his patients he is praying for them and their embryos knowing the odds aren’t in our favor?  He told me that he would call me on Thursday as soon as he had the report from Reprogenetics and we would get a plan in place.

Later that day I spoke with Bonnie again and she told me the embryo transfer was set for Thursday at 1:00.  She said to take the 3 valiums at 12:15pm Thursday and to be at the clinic by 12:45 with a full bladder.

Day 4:
more waiting...day before embryos transfer
