IVF part 4 ~ oct 26-oct31

On Oct. 26 I had my baseline appointment with Dr. Smith/Dr. Williams.  James and I had decided to make the trip a weekend getaway so after my appointment we would head on to Williamsburg for the weekend!  My ultrasound came back with great news…no cyst, game time!  After my u/s we met with Bonnie to discuss all the IVF medications I would be using, how to prepare them and of course how to administer them.  After she went over everything she sent the medicine script to the fertility pharmacy and told us that if we didn’t hear from them within a few hours to give them a call.  I was to start my medicine on Nov. 1, have my first u/s monitoring with Dr. Slackman (IVF doctor in Roanoke) on Nov. 4 with an egg retrieval date no later than Nov. 9.  After leaving my appointment we headed over to UVA’s Medical center to visit a good friend of mine and her son who was there.  After our visit we headed on to Williamsburg with a pit stop in Richmond for some shopping at Short Pump!  After leaving Richmond we called the fertility pharmacy to set everything up.

On Oct. 29 the pharmacy called me to tell me insurance had denied all the medications…big shocker…NOT!  Then the news got even better (NOT)….they informed me that Fed ex was not going to be able to deliver my meds on 10/31 like originally planned due this hurricane you might have heard of….Sandy!  FANTASTIC!!!  They promised me that the meds would be delivered on 11/1, the day I was suppose to start my meds.  I went ahead and called Dr. Williams office to let them know this wonderful news and spoke with the other IVF nurse, Stephanie who told me that if for some reason Fed ex couldn’t deliver the meds that I could come up there and get some because they had back up for emergencies!  Thankfully the medicines arrived in a huge package on Nov. 1

  1. If you are looking for ways to boost your chances of IVF success, there is much you can do. Steps which can really help include dietary modification, stopping smoking and drinking alcohol, ensuring that your stress levels are not high and, of course, getting enough sleep.
