Basement :(

Wednesday May 29 I went downstairs to get something out of my craft area and soon realized we had a BIG problem!  As soon as I stepped into the office my foot was wet and I knew the septic had backed up.  We had a plumber come that night to see if the problem was the tank or pipes.  He had trouble finding the lid  to the septic tank because it was dark outside so he said he would come back the next day...he never did!  The next day servepro came and started tearing out all the wet carpet and placing any wet items on plastic tarps for James and myself to go through.  They said any walls touching wet carpet would need to be replaced 2" up.  After getting their quote for doing the dry wall and ripping up the rest of the carpet James decided he would do it himself!  Sunday (6/2) James parents and Christina and Dock came over to help us move all the furniture out of the basement and rip up the rest of the carpet.  Thank goodness for them!!!

This past week we had another plumber come out and send a camera down the pipes to see what the problem was.  We soon learned that roots had grown into the septic lines right outside the house.  Sunday James and his parents dug to China to find the pipe (ha) and then replaced it.  We honestly don't know how anything was going through the pipe there were so many roots!!  The problem is now fixed but now we wait for the drywall to be replaced, plastered/painted and then for new carpet to put in. One of the worst things is the carpet was brand new when we moved it and we don't really go downstairs that much...grr! Thankfully our insurance is covering $5,000 (we learned that septic systems usually aren't covered in plans so we were very lucky to have a rider clause to cover some of it)!  I can't wait for the basement to be normal again!  We have always said if we didn't have bad luck we wouldn't have any luck at all!
